Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 smartphone will be going on sale again in India on Friday. The biggest highlight of the next sale will be the availability of the most-basic and cheapest Redmi Note 4 (Review) model, which will be going on sale for the first time in the country. Considering the price point of the basic model, it is expected to receive the maximum traction compared to other versions in India.

To recall, Xiaomi unveiled three variants in India – the 2GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage model was priced at Rs. 9,999, the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage model was priced at Rs. 10,999, while the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage model was priced at Rs. 12,999. The smartphone will be available via Mi.com.

On Friday, all the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 variants will be available in Gold and Grey colours. A new Matte Black colour variant of the Redmi Note 4 is also expected to debut in India soon, though there are no availability details at the moment.

Last month, Xiaomi announced that 250,000 units of the Redmi Note 4 were sold in 10 minutes in the smartphone’s first sale in the country.

The Redmi Note 4 seems set to be a very popular smartphone in the country, following in the footsteps of its predecessor the Redmi Note 3. Some of the highlights of the Redmi Note 4 are solid metal body, processor performance, and improved camera compared to the Redmi Note 3. To refresh on the specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has a 5.5-inch full-HD display, and is powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC. At the rear, there is a 13-megapixel camera sensor with dual-LED flash and a fingerprint sensor. In the front, the smartphone houses a 5-megapixel sensor. It sports a large 4100mAh battery, supports VoLTE, and runs on MIUI 8 based android 6.0 Marshmallow.

An earlier report had suggested there will be three models – standard, high, and top-end. The top Mi Note 2 variant was claimed to sport a curved screen display and support similar features as the standard and high versions.
However, all these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt as Xiaomi has not mentioned anything about the upcoming device and the legitimacy of the leaks remains questionable.

In a tweet, the company wrote, “Large displays should still feel comfortable to the grip, & give at least a full-day battery to get through the day!”

Earlier, the Chinese company teased the Xiaomi Mi Max will come in various colour variants – Blue, Pink, and Gold. This was not the only official teaser of the smartphone. Prior to this, Xiaomi also revealed to feature a slim build by the company CEO.

Based on preliminary leaks, the Mi Max smartphone is expected to feature a 6.44-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, which could be considered as the highlight of the device. It is said to pack hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor and come in two variants – 2GB of RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage. The handset is likely to sport a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Other details tipped include support for 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Glonass, and 3G. The handset is expected to pack a 4000mAh battery.

Xiaomi at its May 10 event will also reveal the next version of its MIUI ROM which will be seen running on the Mi Max smartphone – which is expected to be the platform lead device for MIUI 8. Xiaomi had shared a demo video showing its upcoming MIUI 8 notification bar which had received cosmetic changes. The company had initially said it would also launch its Mi Band 2 fitness tracker at the event, but later said it had been delayed by a month due to production issues. The unveil on Tuesday still remains a possibility however, with actual availability scheduled for later.

Now, a new leak claims pricing details of the handset, and also suggests that the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, similar to its predecessor, will pack top-notch specifications. A tipster on Weibo (via Android Headlines) claimed that the Mi Note will be priced at CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 31,000) which if compared to the original Mi Note is costlier. To recall, the Xiaomi Mi Note phablet launched in January 2015 was priced at CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 23,000) for the 16GB model, while the 64GB model came at CNY 2,799 (roughly Rs. 27,900).

Some of the rumoured specifications of the Mi Note 2 claim that the handset will pack either a Snapdragon 820 or a Snapdragon 823 SoC. This could also mean that the Mi Note 2 may have two variants similar to the Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi Note Pro. Other leaked details suggest 4GB of RAM; 64GB of storage; 16-megapixel Sony sensor; OIS, and a 3600mAh battery. The tipster also claims that the handset will come in a 256GB inbuilt storage model. One of the biggest highlights of the handset is said to be the ‘3D Touch’-inspired pressure sensitive display made popular by Apple with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

However, all these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt as Xiaomi has not mentioned anything about the upcoming device and the leaks legitimacy remains questionable.

The Chinese company earlier this week unveiled a variant of its Redmi 3 smartphone in China, called the Redmi 3 ‘Pro’ or ‘high version’, featuring some upgrades in the memory, inbuilt storage, and sensor areas. The new Xiaomi Redmi 3 variant is priced at CNY 899 (approximately Rs. 9,000) and will be available in China next month.

In other news, Xiaomi is all set to launch the Mi 5 flagship smartphone on Thursday in India and with the launch, India will become one of the first markets with Xiaomi Mi 5 outside China.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi 5 flagship smartphone will be launched in India on Thursday. The Chinese company at the Redmi Note 3 India launch earlier this month had promised that the Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone will be “coming to India in a month” – and it certainly appears to have kept its promise.

To recall, Xiaomi’s Global VP, Hugo Barra, during the event had stressed that the team in India was trying to get the handset here “in a month” without specifying an exact date. The company had first launched the Mi 5 smartphone in Beijing last month.

With the unveiling of the Xiaomi Mi 5 on Thursday, India will become one of the first markets to sell the flagship outside China. Barra had recently revealed that the company received a massive 16 million registrations for the Mi 5, which went on sale in China.

To recall, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was announced in three versions – standard edition featuring 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage priced at CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs. 21,000); prime version featuring 3GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB storage priced at CNY 2,299 (approximately Rs. 24,000), and pro version featuring 4GB LPDD4 RAM and 128GB storage priced at CNY 2,699 (approximately Rs. 28,000). It is not clear if Xiaomi will launch all three variants in India.

The dual-SIM (Nano + Nano) Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) with curved 3D Ceramic glass, and a pixel density of 428ppi. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. It sports a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 camera sensor with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and LED flash. The rear camera also sports 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation) and sapphire glass protection lens. The smartphone supports 4K video recording. It also sports a 4-Ultrapixel front camera, with 2-micron pixels. Both cameras feature an f/2.0 aperture.

It measures 144.5×69.2×7.25mm and weighs 129 grams. The Mi 5 packs a 3000mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The company says that the Quick Charge 3.0 is 20 percent faster than its predecessor, the Quick Charge 2.0. Also onboard is a USB Type-C port. Connectivity options include VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ac, 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, Glonass, and NFC.

The leaks and teasers just keep coming in ahead of Xiaomi’s launch of its next flagship smartphone, the Mi 5, scheduled for February 24 in China. The latest leak tip more features and colour variants of the flagship, and in the meanwhile, the company’s Global VP, Hugo Barra announced that the Chinese company for the first time ever will showcase its Mi 5 on the same day at the MWC 2016 event in Barcelona.

“We’re holding an invitation-only media preview on February 24, the very same day of our launch event in Beijing, and I’ll be on stage,” said Barra in a Facebook post. He also confirmed that the preview of the Xiaomi Mi 5 in Barcelona will be an invitation-only media preview.

Considering that Xiaomi has so far launched its new devices only in homeland China or India (the Mi 4i), which is the biggest overseas market for the company, we can expect this to be an indication that Xiaomi may consider releasing the new flagships in the Western markets as well. Last year, Xiaomi launched an online accessory store in the United States and major European countries in an attempt to expand to Western markets.

Xiaomi’s Mi 5 is now one of the most anticipated flagship smartphone for the company as a lot rides on the success of the device. The Chinese company shipped over 70 million phones last year, which was below the company’s expectations.

As for the teaser, Xiaomi Co-Founder and CEO Lei Jun has posted a screenshot on Weibo from the Mi 5 showing the new MIUI version and other features – such as dual-SIM functionality and NFC connectivity.

Coming to the leak, the Xiaomi Mi 5’s retail box (seen above) was allegedly spotted in images. The leaked images come courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr and show the Mi 5 purported retail boxes and colour variants. The Mi 5 images on the purported retail box also show the handset’s design and are in line with previous leaks.

Xiaomi may not have revealed launch date of the Mi 5 flagship smartphone. But the company has been buzzing social media with claims that the handset will be “worth the wait” and is “very, very good”. A new leak tips that the company may launch the Mi 5 smartphone next year on January 21.

A Weibo tipster claims that Xiaomi will launch two versions of the Mi 5 – one priced at CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs. 20,800) and another at CNY 2,499 (approximately Rs. 26,000). It also claims some of the features of the Mi 5 smartphone including a pressure-sensitive touchscreen, which is in-line with an earlier report that claimed Mi 5 will debut Apple’s 3D Touch-like pressure sensitive technology. The Weibo tipster also claims that Mi 5 will be the company’s first smartphone running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Weibo tipster has also posted an image that purportedly shows the Mi 5 smartphone. If this image is accurate, then the Mi 5 will be the first handset in Xiaomi’s lineup to sport a physical button. In-line with several previous leaks, the physical home button below the display is likely to serve as a fingerprint scanner.

In a separate leak, Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang has come out to claim that the Mi 5 will not pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sense ID 3D fingerprint technology. According to Chinese analyst, the Sense ID is still in early days and is not as reliable as the current technology.

To recall, Qualcomm’s Sense ID was launched at MWC and was claimed to be more secure than current implementations thanks to the ability to generate highly detailed 3D fingerprint maps with recognised patterns of sweat glands and ridges.

Based on leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is said to pack an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC. However, a separate report had recently claimed that due to a delay in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipsets, Xiaomi may opt for MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 processor. Other purported innards of the Mi 5 include 4GB of RAM; Adreno 530 GPU; a 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560) pixels resolution display with pixel density of 554ppi; 16GB or 64GB inbuilt storage variants with no option for expandable storage; a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, and a 3030mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi 5, the Chinese tech firm’s unannounced flagship smartphone, appears to have been teased by the company on its Weibo account late last month.

Although the teaser image’s caption does not mention anything about the smartphone including the name, the image shows a new white-coloured handset resembling the design sported by Mi Note but with bezel less display. It also bears the ‘Mi’ logo at the top left corner along with a metal frame. The smartphone is seen interacting with the Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamp. It is worth noting that the handset seen in the image looks strikingly similar to the leaked live images of the device that surfaced last month (via Phonearena).

When questioned about Xiaomi Mi 5 during the launch of Redmi Note 3 and Mi Pad 2, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed that the handset “is worth the wait” and is “very, very good”. Jun however, did not reveal when the company plans to launch the Mi 5 but he did reveal that Xiaomi is revamping its development cycle. This would result in a decrease of the time gap between the launch of two smartphones.

According to a separate report, the Xiaomi Mi 5 might be next in line to introduce 3D Touch-like pressure sensitive technology to its upcoming smartphone displays.

As per the latest leaks and rumours, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is said to sport an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, a processor family already seen on the Mi Note Pro. It is also rumoured to use the Snapdragon 820 SoC. However, a separate report had recently claimed that due to a delay in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipsets, Xiaomi may opt for MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 processor. Some of the purported innards of the Mi 5 include 4GB of RAM; Adreno 530 GPU; a 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560) pixels resolution display with pixel density of 554ppi; 16GB or 64GB inbuilt storage variants with no option for expandable storage; a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, and a 3030mAh battery.

Xiaomi is all set to launch its upcoming Mi 4c smartphone at an event in China on Tuesday. Ahead of the official launch, several leaks have suggested details about the handset including the price.

An earlier leak had claimed that the Mi 4c will be the company’s first smartphone featuring the new USB Type-C port. Xiaomi Co-Founder and President Lin Bin has now confirmed the fact, and clarified that the handset will also support the common Micro-USB connector.

In a Weibo post, Bin has confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 4c will come with a Micro-USB to USB Type-C adapter in the box, which can be attached to the bundled Micro-USB cable . In another post, Bin revealed that the Mi 4c will support 4G LTE connectivity; though it has not been specified which of the three Chinese telecom providers will offer 4G on both the SIMs (4G dual-SIM).

Earlier announcing the launch news, Bin had announced that the Xiaomi Mi 4c would be available in two variants – 2GB of RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage.

The new variant of the Mi 4, the Mi 4c, has been leaked before on several occasions. Similar to the majority of Xiaomi devices, the upcoming Mi 4c is said to be available in China first, and then be rolled out to other regions. The smartphone is expected to be released in the first week of October.

The Mi 4c is said to be priced at a starting price of CNY 1,499 (approximately Rs. 15,650) for the 16GB model, while the 32GB model is said to be priced slightly higher.

The leaks so far have tipped that the Mi 4c will be placed between the flagship Mi 4 and affordable Mi 4i smartphones. The yet-to-be-launched Xiaomi Mi 4c’s retail box was leaked, tipping a Snapdragon 808 processor apart from other details. Other rumoured specifications include a 5-inch full-HD display; 2GB of RAM; 16GB storage, and a 3080mAh battery. A 13-megapixel rear camera is listed on the retail box as well alongside a 5-megapixel front camera.

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a new device or a major announcement is due this week, if the company’s Brand Marketing Director is to be believed. Additionally, first renders of Xiaomi’s Mi Note 2 have surfaced on the Internet.

Xu Jieyun has posted an image on Weibo of Chinese yuan currency notes in a hand with a caption that said (translated), “Next week, there will be a few surprises from Xiaomi, which are going to solve life’s most important questions.”

While there is no word what Xiaomi has up its sleeves for this week, we can expect a price cut announcement on some of the Xiaomi handsets. There can be also new devices launched by the Chinese company.

Additionally, tipster KJuma has posted two renders of alleged Mi Note 2 smartphone featuring almost no bezels on the sides of the screen and also sporting a dual-camera setup at the back. One of the renders show the handset running MIUI 7 tipping that we may see the alleged Mi Note 2 launch this year itself or early next year.
